Lift celebrates its third anniversary with Bike to Work Day - 17th February 2010!

Lift was three years old last month making it one of the longest running travel plans in the Auckland region.  To celebrate a Bike to Work breakfast was held in the international terminal car park from 07:30am.

In addition a competition, supported by Johnstons Coachlines, saw three lucky winners walk away with; a weekend for two to the Bay of Islands, a day trip for two to Waitomo Caves and free travel on Airbus Express!

Picture shows first prize winner Mike Bristow of Auckland Airport with Gary Fitzsimons from Johnstons Coachlines.  Very well done to our other winners Maryann D'Sar (Air NZ) and Maria Ironui (Auckland Airport).

Airbus Express numbers just keep on growing!

Since going 24/7 in November 2009 Airbus Express patronage has increased by 27% on the same period last year!

In December the service carried over 46,000 passengers, a new record for the Airbus.

Staff patronage has also increased by 11% as the extended schedule makes it more attractive for the many airport shift workers - not to mention the huge staff discount!

Welldone Airbus Express!

Lift 2009 survey results show significant reduction in single occupancy staff vehicles.

The results of the 2009 Lift follow up survey confirm the success of the airport travel plan with a 14% reduction in staff driving to work alone (achieved in just three years).

Martin Fryer Sustainability Advisor, who manages the programme, is delighted with the results.  "We do monitor the travel plan and were quietly confident we were influencing travel behaviour but a 14% shift in just three years is remarkable.  These latest results also show an increase in airport workers using public transport.  This has occurred over the past two years, a clear indication that the existing Airbus and 375 services and the new 380 service are providing a real alternative for some staff."

The survey, undertaken in July, was managed by the Travelwise Team at Auckland Regional Transport Authority (ARTA).  It follows a standard format enabling benchmarking of travel plans across the Auckland region.

Clearly Lift is a top performer!

Martin Fryer recieves the EECA Award from Energy Minister Gerry Brownlee

Lift wins national award

In February an entry was made into the Shell NZ Transport category of the EECA Energy Wise Awards 2009 to "recognize technologies or initiatives that change travel behaviour" and we were presented with our Award at an event in SkyCity on the 21st May.
The judges praised Lift for being able to influence changes in travel behaviour across the entire airport. This has reduced fuel burn and carbon dioxide emissions from staff travel to work.

Judges were particularly impressed with the fun approach to the programme, the fact that it had grown over time and was now part of the culture of working at Auckland Airport. Martin Fryer, Sustainability Advisor, can be seen with the Award that was presented by Gerry Brownlee, Minister for Energy and Resources.

Martin said "It is not only pleasing for Lift to be recognised as a succesful travel plan but also that travel plans are now seen as an essential element of sustainable transport solutions. Lift would not have been as succesful without the input of the Travel Wise team at Auckland Regional Transport Authority and the support of the many bus operators serving the airport community."
