Auckland Airport and social responsibility
Auckland Airport considers itself part of a global, national, regional and local community. The airport is on a journey towards operating in a sustainable manner, a manner that takes into consideration the needs of future generations, whilst meeting the needs of the present one.
We occupy a unique location on the Manukau Harbour, a location that includes habitats, heritage and environments that need protection.
We recognise the need to manage significant impacts such as aircraft noise on the local community and environmental risks such as stormwater or groundwater contamination from airport operations.
We currently monitor and manage how we interact with and contribute to society, the economy and the environment, and we intend to do this over the long term.
In addition we are benchmarking ourselves internationally through Earthcheck, a global sustainable tourism certification programme, that involves bi-annual independent third party audits.
