Annual aircraft noise contours

Annual aircraft noise contours

Auckland Airport prepares annual aircraft noise contours (AANCs), which show where noise from aircraft flying overhead averages, over a year, 60 dBA and 65 dBA. Over time the contours give the public an indication of how aircraft noise at any time compares to the ultimate noise the airport is permitted to make.

The contours will also give homeowners (and other activity sensitive to aircraft noise (ASAN) owners) in the noise areas an indication of when they are likely to receive an offer of acoustic treatment as outlined in the noise mitigation programme section.

The most recent set of AANCs were published in October 2011 and show where the noise contours are expected to be in October 2012. No acoustic treatment offers are triggered by the most recent set of AANCs, as the contours have receded a little from previous AANCs.
