Sustainability action plan

Auckland Airport produced a draft Sustainability Action Plan in early 2008 to ensure implementation of its 2008 sustainability policy.  Following a period of consultation with key stakeholders the plan was finalised in June 2009.

The plan covers 14 key areas of business performance that we feel need to be monitored and managed to ensure the sustainable growth of Auckland Airport.

summary leaflet has been produced to raise awareness of our journey towards sustainability.

Below are a selection of consultation responses from key tourism stakeholders:

“TIA would like to congratulate Auckland Airport on the development of a Sustainability Policy, Sustainability Action Plan (SAP) and the organisation’s pro-active approach to the management and improvement of 14 key areas that will lead Auckland Airport to achieving more sustainable business practices.”

Tim Cossar
Chief Executive
Tourism Industry Association

“Auckland Airport provides a first and last impression of New Zealand for the majority of our international visitors, so it’s particularly important for it to show its commitment to sustainability. This Sustainability Action Plan is an excellent example of a holistic approach to corporate responsibility and the practical steps that can be taken. Auckland Airport is a major player in New Zealand’s tourism industry, and we welcome its efforts to set the standard and lead by example in this area.”

CEO, Tourism Auckland

Performance monitoring

Performance is monitored by the sustainability forum on a quarterly basis.  A simple system is used to categorise targets as either being achieved, on track, requiring work or not achieved.  Each category also carries a score enabling a simple graphical representation (below) and dashboard to be created of company performance.
