Auckland Airport and social responsibility
Auckland Airport considers itself part of a global, national, regional and local community. The airport is on a journey towards operating in a sustainable manner, a manner that takes into consideration the needs of future generations, whilst meeting the needs of the present one.
We occupy a unique location on the Manukau Harbour, a location that includes habitats, heritage and environments that need protection.
We recognise the need to manage significant impacts such as aircraft noise on the local community and environmental risks such as stormwater or groundwater contamination from airport operations.
We currently monitor and manage how we interact with and contribute to society, the economy and the environment, and we intend to do this over the long term.
In order to benchmark oursleves, against other sustainable businesses in the tourism sector, we are Earthcheck certified. Earthcheck is a global sustainable tourism certification programme, that involves annual independent third party audits of our operations and our performance against a rigorous standard.
