Pets and Animals at Auckland Airport

The following conditions apply to animals anywhere within the Auckland Airport precinct, including the terminals, roads, car parks, surrounding green spaces, sports fields, retail and shopping areas (including Manawa Bay), and other airport-owned public areas.

These conditions ensure the safety of travellers, staff and animals, while also preventing the risk of animals affecting airport and aircraft operations.

Travelling with a Pet/Animal

You may bring an animal to Auckland Airport only if it is travelling with you on a flight and:

• Your airline has approved the animal for travel.
• The animal remains securely contained in a suitable travel crate at all times while on the airport precinct.

Before travelling, check with your airline for their specific requirements, including:

• Approved travel crates
• Check-in procedures
• Required documentation
• Applicable fees

Your animal must always remain inside its travel crate while at the airport, including surrounding roads, car parks, terminal buildings, and inside your vehicle.

Animals arriving on international flights must conform to all relevant New Zealand legislation and biosecurity requirements.

Visitors to the Airport

If you are visiting the airport, dropping someone off, or picking someone up, animals are not permitted at the Airport. This includes airport roads, car parks and terminal buildings. Please note: these restrictions still apply to pets/animals that remain inside your vehicle the whole time while at the Airport.

Exceptions

The following animals are exempt from these requirements:

• Certified disability assist dogs, as recognised under the Dog Control Act 1996, provided the dog remains under the handler’s control and proper restraint at all times.
• Authorised dogs under the control of Police, MPI and Customs in the course of their duties
